Paperback Writer" is a 1966 rock song recorded and released by The Beatles. Credited to Lennon/McCartney, the song was released as the A-side of their eleventh single. The single went to the number one spot in the United States, United Kingdom, West Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Norway. Written in the form of a letter from an aspiring author to a publisher, "Paperback Writer" was the first UK Beatles single that was not a love song (though "Nowhere Man", which was a single in the US, was their first album song released with that distinction). On the US Billboard Hot 100, The song's two-week stay at number one was interrupted by Frank Sinatra's "Strangers in the Night". "Paperback Writer" was the last new song by The Beatles to be featured in their 1966 touring. Although the song was never included in any original Beatles album, it was included in several compilation albums: A Collection of Beatles Oldies... but Goldies (1966) Hey Jude/The Beatles Again (1970) The Beatles 1962-1966 (Red Album) (1973) Past Masters, Volume Two (1988) 1 (2000) Recording The track was recorded between 13 April and 14 April 1966. "Out of the Silent Planet" is a single from the Iron Maiden album Brave New World, released in 2000. The single features two live tracks from the 1999 Ed Hunter tour, which featured the band reunited with guitarist Adrian Smith and vocalist Bruce Dickinson, as well as the promotional video for "Out of the Silent Planet.". Cover art was by Mark Wilkinson. According to interviews with band members, the song was primarily influenced by the science fiction movie Forbidden Planet. (In addition, the name "Out Of The Silent Planet" is an obvious reference to the 1938 CS Lewis science fiction novel by the same title.) That's a fairly straightforward romp through sci-fi territory and a sort of 'Run To The Hills' revisited vibe. Certainly by halfway through the song 'cos I certainly wanted to get into the old gallop bit from the get go and Steve was like "Let's not give it to 'em straight away". It's based on the sci-fi classic The Forbidden Planet which is monsters from the id and this is basically monsters from the id. The Panthers' featured lineup contained Pete Ham (lead guitar), Ron Griffiths (bass guitar), Roy Anderson (drums), and David 'Dai' Jenkins (guitar). After a handful of moniker changes, in 1964 they settled on The Iveys, named after a street called Ivey Place in Swansea. By March 1965, Mike Gibbins had joined as the drummer and the band graduated to backing locally such UK national groups as the Spencer Davis Group, The Who, The Moody Blues and The Yardbirds. By June of 1966, the band had been taken on by a manager named Bill Collins, who was renting a home at 7 Park Avenue, Golders Green, London, where the whole band moved in with another UK act called The Mojos. The group performed briefly as a backing band for David Garrick ("Dear Mrs. Applebee") but continued to perform as themselves across the UK throughout the rest of the decade. In 1967, Jenkins was asked to leave the group due to a lack of seriousness. and he was replaced by a Liverpudlian guitarist Tom Evans of Them Calderstones, the band's first non-Welsh member. As a well-received stage act on the London circuit, performing a wide range of covers from Motown, blues, soul to Top 40, psychedelic pop, and Beatles, The Iveys consistently garnered interest from record labels. This mix was not meant to be a proper mix of how loud the bass guitar SHOULD be on the album. The intent of this video was to show what the bass guitar sounds like in relation to the album audio, that we all have heard before. Since nobody had really heard much, or any, of the bass guitar in this song before, I thought it would be something people would enjoy hearing. This was never meant to be a version of the song that you would download as an mp3 and play on your iPod (or whatever you've got). Its purpose was for comparison. I could just put up the bass track alone, but I think it means more with the album audio there to compare it to. I managed to [mostly] isolate the bass from those songs, and dubbed it over untouched album versions of the songs. The end result is finally, after nearly 20 years, being able to hear some of AJFA complete with Jason's bass CLEARLY audible in the mix. I'm actually a little surprised that nobody has done this, yet. At least, I haven't been able to find anything related to it, yet.
